I’ve been reading the book “the Diet Myth” by Tim Spector.  it has totally changed the way I think about how much food we need and how often. He completely shatters the preconceived idea that we need breakfast.   ” the fact is that we have been misled by indoctrination from breakfast cereal companies, compounded by a whole series of poor quality cross-sectional studies”.   Many people in Europe do not eat breakfast and often do not until lunch time and they are definitely not fat or hypo glycemic.

He talks about that fact that we should let our bodies dictate when we eat and not dogma or guidelines. The 3 meals a day is a modern invention. Until the 16th century people only had one meal per day.  At this point 2 meals a day were had but often only by the rich.

It’s a fascinating book which tears apart many of the ideas about diet.  I’m loving reading it and learning a ton.  There are very few books about food that resonate with me, even though they appear to be scientifically sound, they are often opinion rather than science.   He does in fact address the benefits of intermittent fasting as that is something we all did naturally for centuries.
