Winning the 2013 CrossFit Games was impressive enough on its own, but it’s the way Samantha Briggs did it that really proved her mettle. The native of Leeds, England, made her first Games appearance in 2010 and broke out the following year with a 4th place finish. Just as her star was rising, though, a devastating knee injury put Briggs on the shelf and prevented her from competing in 2012. After a spirited rehab program, she was back in action a year later, but no one was sure what to expect. It didn’t take long for Sam to answer her critics, taking home the title of “Fittest Woman on Earth” and earning the respect of athletes both in and out of the CrossFit community. By no coincidence, Briggs’ official Rogue Signature Series t-shirt features a mythical phoenix rising from the ashes in front of a Union Jack.
Briggs spent her formative years in the UK training as a multi-sport athlete. She played soccer for the Northern Premiership League and competed in triathlons, duathlons, and indoor rowing competitions. The same year as her CrossFit Games triumph, she also took 1st place in the 2013 English Olympic Lifting Championships (58kg category). After competing in the Atlantic Regional for the first time in 2015 (2nd place), Sam jumped back to the Meridian Regional in 2016, punching another ticket to the CrossFit Games, where she earned an impressive fifth consecutive Top 5 finish.

Well, how do you stack up?

Samantha Briggs has been a staple in the CrossFit community for almost 10 years.   Her intensity and resiliance have made her a fan favourite ever since her win in 2013.

Having seen her in person at the 2015 Games, I can tell you that there is nothing I remember more from those games than her performance in Murph.  Briggs has the engine that we all wish we had.

Todays WOD is named after Sam because we all admire her as an athlete and competitor.  This year she had the choice of competing as an OPEN athlete or as a MASTER athlete…we all know what she chose.

BRIGGS

2K Row

150 Wall Balls 20/14

100 Burpees

50 Thrusters 95/65

Scaled Option 1/2 or with a partner

All athletes who complete todays WOD will be given a note to provide to their employers which excuses them for their sleeping at their desk or their inability to form proper sentences when speaking.

Knowing you have taken this one on, creates a huge feeling of accomplishment. Speaking about it with your “non-crossfit” friends will be excused for a 24 hour period.
