This is so awesome! I truly believe that staying fit and strong is vital to a long and healthy life. Our oldest member at CFP is 75 years old and she’s fierce! We offer a special program for members over 60. It runs on mondays and wednesdays at 3:30 pm. It’s so rewarding to see them getting stronger every day.
The only thing stopping anyone from moving and getting stronger is – themselves. My dad still skiis blacks at Whistler. he’s 75. He bikes and works out almost every day. He plays tennis and was roller blading until just a few ago. Having strong muscles is part of the key to longevity!
This story is so inspiring – Oldest Powerlifter at 100 years old!
Edith Murway-Traina is many things: a great-great-grandmother, a former dance teacher, and the life of the party. Now, for her 100 birthday on Aug. 8, 2021, Murway-Traina is officially the oldest competitive powerlifter. And yes, her status is even Guinness World Records legit.
“Lifting weights upwards of 40-150 pounds, Edith is smashing the competitive powerlifting circuit, dazzling viewers and judges alike with her graceful lifts,” a Guinness World Records release says.
Murway-Traina only joined a gym nine years ago—at 91 years old. The Tampa-based lifter was encouraged by a longtime friend who wanted to become more active, but Murway-Traina says she originally went to the gym “kicking and screaming.”
