We carry 2 types of Collagen: a Marine Collagen from Landish and a Beef Collagen from Garden of Life. I have found that by taking Collagen, my hair, nails and skin have been amazing. I use the Beef collagen in my smoothies and my Marine Collagen in my tea. They are both tasteless, so can be added to any liquid. You can also use them to add protein and collagen to your baking.

We also carry Beauty Collagen which has added supplements specifically for your skin. These are flavoured and easily mix into your smoothie or water.

From Landish:

  • Supports healthy joints
  • Supports healthy skin, hair, and nails
  • Pure, easy-to-digest protein with no additives, preservatives or sulfites
Marine Collagen

Collagen is the principal protein found in skin and bones. Marine collagen is made from fish. Hydrolyzed marine collagen is a marine collagen that has undergone hydrolysis, a clean, enzymatic process that involves breaking the collagen down to more digestible collagen peptides for maximum bioavailability and effectiveness.

Marine Collagen Fish Skins

Landish marine collagen is produced in Canada from the skins of wild, deep-sea ocean fish such as cod, haddock and pollock from the waters of Nova Scotia and the North Atlantic ocean. Unlike farmed fish and other animals, wild-caught fish have no possibility of exposure to antibiotics or hormones.

Marine collagen is also inherently sustainable because it’s made from a by-product, preventing food waste and not requiring any additional fishing.

Joint Health

Many studies have been performed to determine if collagen hydrolysates help in the treatment of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. In a 2000 study, Roland W Moskowitz, MD concluded that “collagen hydrolysate is of interest as a therapeutic agent of potential utility in the treatment of osteoarthritis and osteoporosis. Its high level of safety makes it attractive as an agent for long-term use in these chronic disorders.”

A 2006 study conducted by Alfonso E. Bello, MD concluded “a growing body of evidence provides a rationale for the use of collagen hydrolysate for patients with osteoarthritis.”

Laboratory tests indicate that the increased production of joint cartilage may be initiated by the ingestion of the hydrolyzed collagen while patient testing indicates that some of the peptide groups thought to be required to produce cartilage are absorbed by the blood.

It is not conclusive whether the cartilage growth is initiated by the presence of the hydrolyzed collagen or whether the hydrolyzed collagen provides the peptide chains for growth. It’s possible that the increased production of joint cartilage is caused by one or both mechanisms.

Healthy Hair, Skin & Nails

Hydrolyzed fish collagen contains greater amounts of the amino acids glycine and proline than many other proteins. These amino acids are necessary for promoting healthy tissue growth of hair, skin and nails.

A 2006 study showed positive effects on the skin caused by an increase in collagen intake.

Protein Supplement

Fish collagen is a pure, easy-to-digest protein with no additives, preservatives or sulfites.

Collagen only lacks the essential amino acid tryptophan, which can be obtained from all Landish products which contain protein.

BEEF COLLAGEN from Garden of Life:

  • Bovine collagen has been found to increase types I and III collagen, whereas marine collagen boosts types I and II (3Trusted Source4Trusted Source).
  • The collagen in your skin is primarily made up of types I and III collagen, meaning that bovine collagen may be especially useful for reducing wrinkles, promoting elasticity, and increasing skin moisture (4Trusted Source).
  • Meanwhile, marine collagen may improve cartilage and skin health.
  • May help alleviate osteoarthritis symptoms
  • Bovine collagen may relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis, a common type of arthritis caused by the disintegration of the protective cartilage at the ends of your bones. It can lead to pain and stiffness in your hands, knees, and hips, among other body parts (13).
  • In a test-tube study in mouse cells, bovine collagen increased bone formation and mineralization, which may aid osteoarthritis (14Trusted Source).
  • Furthermore, in a 13-week study in 30 people with osteoarthritis affecting their knees, those given 5 grams of bovine collagen twice daily experienced improvements in symptoms (15Trusted Source).
  • May decrease visible signs of aging
  • Bovine collagen may improve the symptoms of aging skin by raising the quality and quantity of skin collagen.
  • While an 8-week study in older mice indicated that bovine collagen supplements did not enhance skin moisture, they did significantly improve the skin’s elasticity, collagen content, collagen fibers, and antioxidant activity (5Trusted Source).
